Tree Trimming Before Fall: Why August Is the Perfect Time in Central Texas

Most people don't think about their trees until there's a problem, like a branch that comes down in a storm, a limb is scraping the roof, or the canopy has gotten so thick that nothing grows underneath it.

But proactive tree trimming is one of the best things you can do for your property, and late summer is one of the best times to do it in Central Texas.

Why Late Summer Works So Well

By August, trees have finished their major growth push for the year. Trimming at this point shapes the canopy for fall without stimulating a bunch of new growth that would just get hit by cooler temperatures a few weeks later. It's a timing sweet spot that sets your trees up well heading into the dormant season.

It Reduces Storm Risk Before Fall Weather Arrives

Central Texas can see some significant fall storms. Dead, weak, or overgrown branches are hazards when strong winds roll through. Getting ahead of storm season with a good trim removes those potential problem branches before they become a problem.

It Improves Light and Air Flow

A dense, overgrown canopy blocks sunlight from reaching your grass and other plants below. Thinning it out in late summer improves light penetration and air circulation, which helps your lawn recover from summer stress and gives it a better chance heading into fall.

What About Tree Removal?

Sometimes trimming isn't enough — a tree is dead, diseased, structurally compromised, or simply in the wrong place. Tree removal is a bigger job and it requires the right equipment and expertise to do safely.

Evans Lawn Care handles tree cutting and small tree removal as part of our custom project services. And if we can't help, we will put you in touch with someone who can!
